Occasionally we get slightly random requests. This one was for a costume for a bonfire society do. The customer's father had started their bonfire society 50 years ago with the theme of Mongols and the customer wanted to celebrate the anniversary by going back to that theme. All we had was a picture off the internet and a budget.

Working to a budget is easy in some ways and tricky in others. You have to try and convey to the customer what their budget buys them, usually by referencing standard items, but you know how much money you have to work with. Tricky comes when you're building as it's all too easy to get carried away with fun pieces.

This is one of those jobs where I just about kept to the budget on the design side but miscalculated on the materials front. But it was a huge amount of fun! The vambraces are going to be a standard item as soon as I can source more of the discs we used in the decoration.
